Russia imposes ban on sports betting for sports agents

On November 22, the official internet-portal of legal information published the law № 396-FZ, providing changes in the legislative regulation system of professional sport.    

The document adds the term “sport agent” into the Russian legal vocabulary. It means a citizen or organization focusing on job placement of athletes and coaches. The law prohibits agents to bet in betting shops and pools on sports events related with their professional activity. The law also spells out agents’ obligations arising from Compliance as well as fair representation of customers’ interests.         

Changes come into effect after 10 days of the moment of document official publication.
