Party Poker Wants Back in the US Gambling Market

The group’s co-Chief Executive Officer, Jim Ryan, said that it aims to create a portal for Bwin.Party with the US companies so that it is poised to enter a legalized and regulated online gambling industry.

“We have to be ready for both federal or state,” he said in an interview. “It feels good to have American taxpaying companies finally driving this.

”Party Gaming, before it merged with Bwin to become bwin.party, was once considered the king of US online poker and dominated the market. However, the introduction of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006 forced the company to depart the US and concentrate its efforts on other markets instead.

Party Gaming eventually settled with the US Attorney and paid $105 million in US authorities in return for a promise of non prosecution. This paved the way for higher investment activity and the eventual merger with Bwin Entertainment.

Ryan is confident that Bwin.Party will eventually find its way back into the US gambling industry. “It’s not a question of ‘if’, but ‘when’,” he said. However, he wasn’t deluding himself about the tough competition in the gambling industry and the fact that so many companies would be fighting for a piece of the pie once legalization occurs.

“We have to realistic about where we sit in the food chain,” he said. “If the US regulated online poker, it would be unlikely that we would secure a license directly.”
